The Allied Arts Council is a non-profit, charitable organization where artists, both amateur and professional, meet to encourage and help each other in a friendly environment. They operate the Spruce Grove Art Gallery.

Its aims and objectives are:

  1. To educate and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of the arts by working within the community to improve the standards, quality and range of artistic expression.

  2. To encourage more people to participate in artistic activities by proving art classes, shows, workshops and awarding art scholarships.

Check us out by attending a general meeting or come by the Gallery.

When you are ready to join, simply fill out an application form and pay the $40 fee.

See the links to the application form as well as our Membership Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Standards Document.  These documents provide information about our organization.

If you'd like to come to a general meeting, please call the Gallery at 780.962.0664 for dates and times as they are subject to change.

General Meetings are held four times per year on the first Thursday of the months of January, March, June, and September at 7:00 p.m. in Meeting Room A at the Spruce Grove Art Gallery, which is located in the Melcor Cultural Centre at #35 – 5th Avenue,
Spruce Grove.

The AGM is held at the March general meeting. During the March AGM, elections for
the Board of Directors will take place and the financial statements will be presented to
the membership.

The AAC has the meeting room booked for the first Thursday of each month, and the
Board will attempt to plan a guest speaker, art critique, professional development
seminar, or other group activity on the months that there is no general meeting.
Suggestions are welcomed!

The Board of Directors meets on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

Your first step in applying to join the Allied Arts Council is to attend one monthly meeting, as a guest, in order to determine if AAC meets your goals.

After joining the AAC, when you wish to show your work in the Spruce Grove Art Gallery, you will be asked to submit the following to the Standards Committee for jurying: Three (3) pieces of art in your medium or mediums.

If you are a painter, the paintings should be framed or matted as required by the medium used, and to gallery standards. Your submissions must have been produced within the past two years. They must be of your own composition (i.e. not done in class or with the help of an instructor or copied from a photograph, print or painting other than your own) and executed in any media noted in the Standards for Members. Evaluations will take place at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, except for July & August. (During these 2 months, evaluations will be on an as needed basis.)

AAC membership provides many opportunities to learn how a gallery operates as well as how to present your art in a professional manner.  You can gain experience in hanging art, event planning, organizing an art competition, or join the Board of Directors and build your management experience.

The annual membership fee is $40.00 (due by January 1st each year). You may bring the appropriate number of pieces of art into the gallery for hanging on the next gallery change once you have been juried in.
